Teaching

Over the years I have taught undergraduate courses at UCL and at Oxford in US history including a final year special subject on the Civil War.

I have supervised  PhD students on various topics in nineteenth-century US history, including political mobilisation in the 1820s, music in nineteenth-century American politics, the ‘Young America’ movement and its impact on antebellum politics, Anglo-American relations and the Worlds Fairs, and on US national identity as seen through the prism of American images of Canada. If you are interested in pursuing doctoral research in any period of American political history or in any aspect of the Civil War or antebellum era, please get in touch with me.
