Over the years I have taught undergraduate courses at UCL and at Oxford in US history including a final year special subject on the Civil War.
I have supervised a completed PhD on political mobilisation in the 1820s, and on the folk revival in Britain and the US in the postwar period. I am currently supervising doctoral students working on music in nineteenth-century American politics, on ‘Young America’ and its impact on antebellum politics, on Anglo-American relations and the Worlds Fairs, and on US national identity as seen through the prism of American images of Canada. If you are interested in pursuing doctoral research in any period of American political history or in any aspect of the Civil War or antebellum era, please get in touch with me.
